![]() ![]() This paper describes a QoS framework known as SuperNOVA, that extends this concept from the network layer to the application. ![]() Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networks support two types of QoS, resource reservation and best effort. At the network layer, terms such as bandwidth and error rates are used, whereas applications use abstract terms such as frame rates and image quality. of the protocol stack is being described. Different parameters are used depending on which layer. 1 INTRODUCTION The Quality of Service (QoS) concept is used to quantify the performance of networked communications. This is then applied to a VoD application. A JAVA based framework for building QoS controlled multimedia applications is then described. This paper describes the QoS concept from both the network and application's perspective.
